Banja Luka goes online “IMAGE-GUIDED RADIO-/NUCLIDE THERAPY”

Sep-28 to Oct-2, 2020

Place online
Date Sep-28 to Oct-2, 2020
Duration 1 week
Organizer IFAMP (non-profit, based in Vienna/AT)

Target audience
Medical physicists, biomedical engineers, physician scientists, medical doctors

Objective
To introduce and train on the methodological and clinical aspects of image-guided external/internal radiation therapies Scope
This training school is in the tradition of the IFMP training workshops (see [https://www.ifmp.eu]). For 20+ years, students mainly from Eastern Europe and the Balkan region have been trained in a broad range of applied physics topics with a particular focus on imaging, detectors and radiation physics. This 2020 training school will be dedicated to a wider audience that encompasses physician scientists and medical doctors. Our aspiration is to disseminate knowledge in the field of image-guided therapy interventions (surgery, radiation, chemo, etc.) and to promote engagements across specialties for a better understanding and appreciation of applied medical physics.

Curriculum
The course will be based on presentations, Q&A sessions and visits to relevant local diagnostic and therapeutic divisions (see Table). Faculty will come principally from the Medical University of Vienna and Banja Luka. Please see next page for more detailed curriculum.

Target Audience
Young professionals with an interest in medical imaging and healthcare. Junior medical professionals and doctors with a basic knowledge of biology. Junior physicists and engineers with a BSc or MSc degree (latter preferred), or working towards a related PhD. All attendees should have an interest in clinical applications of natural sciences. They must also be able to communicate in English, and be willing to engage in conversations and joint Q&A or reading/case reports.

Lectures

  • Introduction to general oncology, cancer therapies and medical imaging
  • Image-based therapy response assessment, quantification and kinetic modelling
  • Radiation dosimetry and Theranostics
  • Image-guided external radiation therapy and particle therapy
  • Image fusion and image processing
  • Image-guided interventions

Faculty

Our faculty comes with in-depth experience and expertise in oncology, nuclear medicine and radiology imaging, data processing and radiation therapy planning and instrumentation. Their lectures will be complemented by visits to local imaging and therapy facilities so as to combine theoretical and practice know-how.”
